:: what? i have a blog? ::

[ photo : "raspberry hill" by ara133photography on etsy ]

my unintentional "holy crap my life is hectic... what? i have a blog?" blog break has me thinking a bit about this here blog and what it's doing here and what i want it to be doing. and so now i just want to ask you:

what do you like about this little space? what brings you back for more?

because me? i kind of see it as serving a few functions:

(1) it helps me stay sane and "normal"
(2) it has provided opportunities for me to connect with people in this new solitary life i'm living (staying home with the kids, working for myself, long hours at the computer and the paper cutter...)
(3) it allows me to explore what it means to run an indie business
(4) it lets me try things out on you - to gauge your interest in new designs and projects and ideas
(5) it helps me document my life as it speeds right on by me...

but i'd also sort of like to see it do some other things, like:
(1) help promote other people who are out there busting their asses like i am, trying to be seen and heard and appreciated
(2) collect inspiration
(3) foster dialogue more

does that seem like insanity? is it too much? would it annoy you if i started having weekly features or columns to help keep myself (and my blog? perhaps...) a little bit more organized?

Good question. I read your blog b/c you keep it fresh, real and funny. Sneak peeks and updates are always nice b/c it's very motivating to see how others are making their success work, ya know?

I love following your indie business watching it evolve and getting an inside look at your ideas and inspiration.I also enjoy your thoughts on juggling life, a business and a blog. Looking forward to seeing where you take this in the future :)

I've just taken the plunge with my shop, hoping to make it a major contributor to my family income as my husband finishes school. (This is it if you're interested: http://gadanke.bigcartel.com/

I like your focus toward a more eco-conscious business, and I think I started following you months and months ago. All I know is that seeing you right here giving it your all has been incredibly inspirational for me. The peek into your analysis was a really fun post. I like that about you. All these little bits!

The thing I love about your blog is how honest you are. Your posts are so real that they make me feel like I know you.

I think all of your ideas to add to the blog are brilliant and I look forward to it.

I sometimes wonder why I blog, is it important enough to continue to do it? Is it productive? Does it make me happy? Would I be happier doing something else? I think evaluation is always a good sign - and making plans for progress is even better. So best of luck to you, I'll be reading :)

I keep coming back to your blog because I like what you have to say and I love seeing what you're working on. The new ideas sound like fun, so I hope you'll add them. :)

As a fellow designer, I love to see what you're working on. And I envy that you are working on your own. I'm still off in the agency world wishing I could work on my own. Someday... Until then I'll keep reading.

I enjoy peeks into your thought process, your creative process, your business process. It gets me out of my own little bubble and reminds me that there's a whole community of us out there! Keep it up!

P.S. You know what they say: "the more you give, the more you get." In a way, blogging is giving. It's sharing info and ideas in hopes of inspiring or saving someone else from headaches you endured to make things work. The more we share and give pointers and resources, the more I think comes back to us.
