:: Snippets Overheard in the Home of Cat Owners ::

Both of the below scenes occurred in this very house this weekend. No names have been changed and no details exaggerated. You'll understand if you've ever owned a cat. If not, I hope you'll laugh.

Snippet One:

HUSBAND: (Leaning over to pick something off the floor with a paper towel) “These are my favorite kind of hairball.”

WIFE: (Knowingly) “The kind that just picks right up and doesn’t stick to the carpet?”

HUSBAND: “Yup.”

Snippet Two:

WIFE: (Standing in the garage while husband does some work out there – staining doors or molding or something like that. Annoyed, after a few moments, by a fly near her) “Hey, fly, enough with the buzzing already.”

HUSBAND: “Oh! Open the door.”

WIFE: “Open the door? What do you mean?”

HUSBAND: “Open the door. Let the fly in.”

WIFE: “In the house?”

HUSBAND: “Yeah. In the house. Tilly will love it.” (Tilly, you may have guessed, is one of the cats).

WIFE: (Reaching toward the door handle) “Oh yeah. Good idea.”

(Note: the fly in this particular instance must also have figured out who Tilly is because he wouldn’t go inside despite our leaving the door open for several minutes and Brian’s attempting to shoo him in.)
